Hybrid IT, sometimes referred to as Hybrid Cloud IT, is a hot topic. Here’s a quick guide to the key facts and figures you will want to know.

So, what is Hybrid IT?
In simple terms, it is the combination of public cloud combined with other essential IT resources, deployed together to deliver the IT organizations need. With hybrid IT, you look at your IT resources as a whole, both your on-site servers and your cloud applications and storage, and decide what workloads and data you want to keep close to home, and what you want to host in the cloud.

Why is it a hot topic today?
While the public cloud is proving increasing popular, it is not a panacea. Organizations may want to keep some resources locally on a private server for reasons of application performance, network performance, data security or privacy policy.  For example, A Business may want to use Microsoft Office 365 or Azure through the cloud, or may undertake peaky R&D workloads in the cloud to avoid the cost of local storage and compute capacity. However, they may also want to ensure that Active Directory and core or legacy applications, for example, are managed locally, or that certain customer data is retained on-site. This is, in essence Hybrid IT, and it’s just the way the world is.

Is Hybrid IT being deployed?
Cloud adoption is increasing rapidly. And the truth is that, with the exception of very few “pure cloud” deployments, every cloud implementation will lead to a hybrid IT strategy. In reality, the IT world is and will remain hybrid.

What are the benefits of Hybrid IT?
Hybrid IT can provide the best of both worlds - the flexibility of the public cloud and the control of local IT. You choose which data and applications you keep on your local server, and which you put in the cloud. High performance or bandwidth hungry applications can be ran locally for best performance, while others can be ran in the cloud for maximum flexibility. Or, you can choose to keep sensitive data on your local site for reasons of compliance, while other mass data storage can take place cheaply in the cloud. The key is you are in control of what happens where.
